Disaster Relief

Ananda Marga’s affiliated relief branches, AMURT & AMURTEL, operate disaster relief operations and development projects to help those in need. AMURTEL primarily focuses on the needs of women and children who typically suffer the brunt of calamities and poverty.

One of the few voluntary organizations of Third World origin, AMURT & AMURTEL was established in 1970 and incorporated in the USA in 1985. AMURT & AMURTEL is a member of InterAction.

AMURT & AMURTEL’s objective is to help improve the quality of life for the poor and disadvantaged people of the world and those affected by calamity and conflict. They encourage and enable individuals and communities to harness their own resources to secure the basic necessities of life and to gain greater economic, social, and spiritual fulfillment while honoring their customs, language, and religious beliefs.

Philippines Super Typhoon Yolanda 2013: School reconstruction, food security, shelter, Psycho-Social Support,

Lebanon Syrian Refugees 2011 Crisis: Psycho-Social Support, education, non-food items.

Haiti Earthquake 2010: Psycho-Social Support, food, non-food distribution, health.

Myanmar Cyclone Nargis 2007: reconstruction, shelter, food, and non-food distribution.

USA Hurricane Katrina 2005: sanitation, Psycho-Social Support

Indonesia Asian Tsunami 2004: Food and non-food items, reconstruction, shelter, livelihoods, food secuirty.

USA: For 3 decades, AMURT has been delivering food to vulnerable populations in Washington DC and Los Angeles.
